AIR STARTER MOTORS

GALI family air starters

Air starter motors for reciprocating internal combustion engines

GALI pneumatic starters are designed for internal combustion engines and gas turbines. They are the only ones on the market that operate directly at 30 and 40 bar, matching the design pressures of most compressed air systems, without requiring pressure-reducing valves or complex air installations. Their integrated electro-pneumatic control system makes the start-up process more economical. Manual activation is also available when no external power is available.

Despite their compact size and light weight, they deliver high starting torque and power. Made from high-strength cast aluminum, they reduce vibration loads and engine assembly weight. Their low consumption optimizes air capacity, and they operate efficiently at pressures from 10 to 40 bar, depending on the application.

With rapid engagement and disengagement, they accelerate engines to ignition speed in seconds, enabling fast start-up even in strict “black start” applications.

They require no external lubrication, promoting a clean, eco-friendly, and low-maintenance installation. Their resistance to humidity, saline environments, and high temperatures minimizes maintenance needs.

GALI starters are suitable for a wide range of applications, including marine propulsion and auxiliary engines, generator sets, conventional and nuclear power plants, and military, off-shore, mining, and railway sectors, among many others. They can be easily adapted to new or existing applications (retrofitting) with standard SAE or custom mounting interfaces. They are also available in Slow Turn (ST) versions for applications requiring safety checks.

Approved by classification societies such as DNV-GL, Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register, and ABS, and unitary certifications can also be carried out under request with other notified bodies such as KR, JG, or CCS. Discontinued starter models are available for older applications, while the current range fully replaces obsolete units.

ATEX versions are available for safe operation in hazardous environments. GALI provides complete starting solutions for diesel and gas engines and explosion-proof protection for industrial vehicles, all in compliance with European ATEX regulations. All starters are certified under ATEX 2014/34/EU and IECEx standards and are tested in-house to ensure the highest quality.

General Features

  • Two-stage safe starting sequence: engagement and acceleration, to prevent damage to the engine ring gear.
  • Very light and highly resistant starters, which do not require external lubrication. They are ideal for extreme conditions.
  • The only starter on the market that operates directly at 30 and 40 bar, eliminating the need for pressure reduction groups.
  • Available in Slow Turn (ST) version, for increased safety starting sequences.
  • Versions with right and left rotation, covering all engine applications.
